In 2018, Denmark’s six university colleges and the LEGO Foundation established a long-term partnership with one shared vision: to promote children’s creative, experimental and playful approach to the world and lifelong desire to learn. The organisation's mission, and catalogues of tools and knowledge were to be reflected in a brand new accessible website which not only had to cater to their diverse audiences of pedagogues, teachers and students, but also capitalise on Playful Learning's vibrant and bold visual identity.

A major part of the project define use-cases and stakeholder expectations to establish a spot-on information architecture and tone of voice. This was achieved through a series of hands-on workshops involving external audiences and in-house teams. Another focus point was to find the sweetpot for the look and feel of the final product, which had to strike the balance between a toned-down look suitable for public institutions and the exuberant creativity of the Playful Learning brand.

During the process it became clear that the site had to be developed with a fully modular approach to allow the team maximum control and flexibility in regards to content and layout.

While the website layouts are simple and unpolished with a focus on being approachable and unpretentious, subtle micro-interactions and animations were added to make the user experience feel explorative and delightful.
